The 21st Century lives are changing. Distant job opportunities caused the disintegration of families. We lost closeness, touch and the sharing of family love. We have become disconnected. Hard economy and high housing and living costs provoked a need to find ways to live frugally. In order to compensate these phenomena we envision the creation of a sharing community as an answer.
We Propose to:
Create Multigenerational Communities of various family compositions to live together whether they are blood related or not. The residents of all age groups have the opportunity to interact and support each other socially and emotionally to create vibrancy in life. The community by and large becomes a newfound family, and for the senior members they could be living their lives and careers the second time around in a relaxed pace as they may choose. The senior residents may share their wisdom, morals and their view about life as they socialize with younger people who will learn about being productive as responsible members of the society.
In exchange, the younger residents may offer energy, vitality, fresh ideas, excitement, brilliance and stimulation to the seniors. Each community shall be managed and operated under a central set of criteria and standard. As each community may have its own culture shall have its own Board of Directors elected by its residents. They become as if franchised communities.
In such a mutually supportive environment where much services and activities are shared as are their costs (cars can be shared to reduce costs). The working parents (the middle group of the three or more generations) will not need to send their parents away to a costly “home” or to send their children to a “day care center”. The working parents know that their parents or their children are safe “at home” under professional and cooperative supervision. The working parents also know that their teen age children will not come back from school early afternoon to an empty, unsupervised home but to a supervised, activity and opportunity filled community center to rest, play, study or even help with meaningful projects.
This supports the dual career, multi-wage-earner families to balance their time between work and family.
The senior parents may live in separate units in the community from the working parents’ apartment or house only say a 5 minute walk away for them to be involved in the younger people’s activities should they so choose but free to retire back to their own “quiet” place at will.
The community shall offer choices of living units from one bed room apartments or houses to two or three bed room apartments or houses and anything between, among low-rise, mid-rise, high-rise, clusters and single detached structures whether in urban or suburban areas where labor and transportation is abundant and available. Community residents may be a single person or a family at any stage of their life.
